A type of health care directive, a living will is a written statement directing health care decisions that typically must be made toward the end of one’s life. When one thinks of a living will, typically what comes to mind is whether one would want to be kept alive by artificial means if they had a terminal condition with no hope of recovery. Other issues typically addressed in a living will are comfort care, artificial administration of food and fluids, the possibility of dying somewhere other than a hospital, and pregnancy.
